Project Window

A translation project is opened in the Project window which is a MDI (multiple document interface) window, or document window.  The Project window is the primary window of a translation project; it has a main view which is known as the Text Table view and four secondary views: the Repetitions view, All Translations view, the Group Items view, and the Source File view.

Text Table View

The Text Table view (Figure 1) can list all the data of the translation project.  By default only translation units for which the resource type is a text type (also: string type) are listed, but the Text Table view can list translation units of all resource types, such as font, size and position data, and images.

·

Alphabetical Sorting

The contents of the "Source," "Target," and "Name/ID" columns in the Text Table view can be sorted alphabetically by clicking on the respective column header with the mouse.  The currently sorted column is indicated by a yellow arrow symbol at the top of the column.

·

Columns Order

The order of the columns in the Text Table view can be changed with clicking on a column header and holding the primary mouse button down while moving the column (drag and drop).  You can revert back to the original order of the columns with a right mouse-click to call up a local menu where this command can be selected.

·

Showing/Hiding Columns

Several columns in the Text Table view can be shown or hidden using the Show/Hide Columns dialog box, which is accessed by right mouse-clicking in the view to open a local menu where the Show/Hide Columns command can be selected.

·

Editing Text Table Entries

An item selected in the Text Table view can be edited in the Translation Edit bar or (if it is a text item) directly in the target cell in the Text Table view (inline editing).

·

Text Import/Export Handling

Handling for the text import and export functions occurs in the Text Table view.  This means that the import and export functions will be performed for the items that have been selected in this view.  Item selection makes it possible to specify exactly which translation unit(s) are to be the subject of an import/export command.

For details see:  "Import/Export (Overview)."

Toolbar

Languages Button

Use the Languages toolbar button to open the Languages property page in the Project Properties dialog box.  The same command is also found in the Project menu.

The active (visible) target language can be changed by clicking on the drop-down arrow button to the right of the toolbar button.

Open Menu View Button

Opens the Menu view for the currently selected item.

Open Dialog Box View Button

Opens the Dialog Box view for the currently selected item.

Open External .NET Forms Editor Button

Opens the External .NET Forms Editor for the currently selected item.

Resource Type Editor Button

Lets you select a resource type editor that has been made available for the selected translation unit so that it can be edited using the most appropriate tool for that particular resource type.

Translation Status Filter Buttons

Translation units shown in the Text Table view can be filtered according to translation status by selecting one of these buttons.:

1.

Show all resources with text.

2.

Show all non-translated and changed text data resources.

3.

Show all translated data for which the source data has changed.

4

Show with items excluded from translation.

Show size and position data.

Show Marked Items Only Button

Select this button to activate or deactivate the filter that tells RC-WinTrans to display only those translation units that have been marked with a temporary (blue dot) marker.

Show Selected Items Only Button

Activates/Deactivates the filter that tells RC-WinTrans to show only those translation units that are currently selected in the Text Table view.

Tile Window Button

Use this button to reset the Project window layout to its default setting which is a split view tiled horizontally.

Maximize Text Table View Button

Maximizes the (main part of the) Text Table view and hides the lower (secondary) part where the individual tab views are located.

Tab Views

·

Repetitions Tab View

The Repetitions view lists all of the repetitions for the item currently selected in the Text Table view. All translation units that have the exact same source text are considered repetitions.

NOTE:  The Repetitions view lists all of the repetitions found in the translation project regardless of any filter which may currently be activated for the Text Table view.

Repetitions are only shown for translation units that are string types.  If a non-string type is currently selected in the Text Table view, the Repetitions view will be empty.

Automatic Hotkey Insertion in the Repetitions View

Whenever the Translate All Repetitions command (OK ( _ ) button) in the Translation Edit bar is used, RC-WinTrans automatically tries to find (and insert) a suitable hotkey character for each repetition when this is appropriate.  This is done according to the following guidelines:

1.

If the source text has a hotkey and no target text exists, the same hotkey character as the one in the source text will be used (provided this character is also present in the target text).

2.

If a target text exists in which a hotkey character has already been specified, the same hotkey character will be used in the new target text (provided this character is still present in the new target text).

The automatic hotkey insertion function can be enabled/disabled using the appropriate commands from the Edit menu.  This function is disabled by default.

·

All Translations Tab View

The All Translations tab view (Figure 2) displays the currently selected item's translation and translation status in all the project's target languages.

·

Source File Tab View

The Source File view (Figure 3) shows the underlying data structure of the original (source) file in an HTML display.  Only source files with a text format (e.g., Win32 RC files, RESX, XLIFF and Java properties files) can be displayed in this view; the view is disabled for binary files.

The text to be translated is marked and the current item is highlighted in the view.  Text items can be selected directly using the mouse.

See also:  "Status Bar."

·

Group Items Tab View

The Group Items view lists all translation units that belong to the same group as the translation unit currently selected in the Text Table view.

EXAMPLE: If the currently selected translation unit is a caption text of a dialog box item, the Group Items view will (at least) list the translation units of the "x-size," "x-location," "x-style," and "x-exstyle" resource types.  In general: the Group Items view will list all the data of the dialog box item because this data (translation units) is in the same group in the underlying database.
