Changed Source View

Last update: January 2017

Whenever a source file(s) is (are) modified and the RC-WinTrans translation project database is updated to integrate those changes, the Changed Source view will list the changes made to items for which translations already exist in the project.  Use the list to review translated data for changed items and update this data so that it is valid and accurate.

Changes indicated by the view will be of the following types:

textual data (e.g., font specifications, strings, shortcuts).

size and position data of dialog boxes and dialog box items.

binary data (e.g., images, ActiveX property data).

The Changed Source view is automatically filled for the currently active project. Use the Refresh button at the top of the view to update the content after editing translation data.  The Changed Source view will be empty if the project does not have any translated data for which the associated source data has changed.

NOTE ON THE VISIBILITY OF SOURCE FILE CHANGES: The changes listed in the Changed Source view are the result of RC-WinTrans having successfully updated the translation database for a changed source file(s).  If a source file is modified the update database process must be performed before the changes are visible in the view.

Reviewing and Solving Changed Items

RC-WinTrans makes it easy to review changed items and update the target data (translation) accordingly.

Address a reported item by selecting the listing in the Changed Source view.  RC-WinTrans will then open the appropriate view (Project window, Dialog Box view or Menu view) for handling the item needing to be checked.

Depending on the modification, updates to the existing translation data (e.g., text, image, size) can require retranslation or simply confirming the current translation data.  Editing the target data again and saving it removes the "changed source" state attached to the item by the update database process.

See the " Resolution" sections below for instructions on how to address specific types of indicated changes.

HOW TO REVIEW AND UPDATE TRANSLATIONS (BY TYPE OF CHANGE INDICATED)

·

Changed Text Data

This change is indicated if a text item was translated (in the RC-WinTrans project) and then the source text in the source file is subsequently modified.  The previous (original) source text is shown in the Translation Edit bar where the differences between the current source text and the previous source text are highlighted/colored for quick identification.

Resolution (changed source text indication):

Check the existing translation in the Translation Edit bar.  Edit (retranslate) the translation text or just press the OK button to confirm the current translation.

See also: "(Source Data) Changes Indication."

·

Changed Size Data

This change is indicated if a dialog box or dialog box

item has been resized in the project (the width and/or the height was modified for the current

target language) and then subsequently the dialog box or dialog box item was resized in the source file.

Resolution (changed item size indication):

Check the size of the dialog box or dialog box item specified for the target language.  Use the Reset to Original or Confirm Layout commands in the Size/Position tab of the Dialog Box view, or edit the layout as desired.

·

Changed Binary Data

If target data ("translations") exist for binary data and then the binary data in the

source file is changed, this will be the indication shown in the Changed Source view.

Resolution (changed ActiveX binary data indication):

Check the existing ActiveX dialog box control to see if it might need updating in the target (translation) data.  The "changed source" state flag must be removed manually using the State Flag command from the Edit menu.

·

Changed Image

When target data ("translations") exist for images and the image data in the source

file is modified, this will be the indication shown in the Changed Source view.

Resolution (changed ActiveX binary data indication):

Check the existing image for the target language (content, size, color depth) to see if it might be need to be updated.  The "changed source" state flag must be removed manually using the State Flag command from the Edit menu.
