TM Workbench

The RC-WinTrans TM Workbench (Figure 1) is an add-on component with its own interface in a window separate from the main RC-WinTrans application.  It manages access to an SDL Trados translation memory (TM), interacting with the TM Workbench to find and save translations.

The TM Workbench can also be used to maintain the contents of a translation memory.  This includes listing all or a selection of items contained in the TM in order to show, edit or delete them.

See the product documentation for RC-WinTrans' TM Workbench Add-On for more info.

Further functionality provided by the TM Workbench is access and maintenance of RC-WinTrans text file (.txt) dictionaries and RC-WinTrans TMX file (.tmx) dictionaries.  A dictionary listed in the Dictionaries tab view can be opened with the TM Workbench.  The TM Workbench then offers the same access and modification capabilities for the dictionary as for an SDL Trados TM.

Opening the TM Workbench

Use the Start command in RC-WinTrans' TM Workbench menu (Figure 2) to open the TM Workbench, or press F8.  Note that the TM Workbench Add-On must be installed (separately from RC-WinTrans). See "Installation," below.

Installation

The RC-WinTrans TM Workbench is an add-on for RC-WinTrans that has its own setup for installation. The TM Workbench is available to RC-WinTrans 10 users at no cost and can be downloaded from the Schaudin.com customer download area.

Migrating Dictionary/Glossary Data from RC-WinTrans 7

Use the TM Workbench to migrate an RC-WinTrans 7 dictionary (or "glossary") to an SDL Trados TM (.sdltm). The following steps make up the migration process:

1.

In RC-WinTrans 7: Open a dictionary database and select one dictionary for migration.

2.

In RC-WinTrans 7: Export the dictionary to a TMX file using the Glossary | Export to TMX File menu commands.

3.

In the TM Workbench: Create a new translation memory or open an existing one.

4.

In the TM Workbench: Import the TMX file using the TM | Import/Export | Import TMX File menu commands.
